Bimmah sinkhole can be found on Oman's northeastern coast. The legend told by Omanis is that a star fell and created this enormous hole in the ground. But the scientists says that the limestone in combination with the ocean just a few hundred metres away created a cave, and eventually the roof collapsed and formed an open hole - the sinkhole as it is today.
The hole has an underground connection with the ocean, so there is saltwater as well as several fish species. A nice place for an afternoon swim, and the water was actually quite warm. After our swim in the sinkhole: In the open ocean just a few hundred metres away we spotted several sea turtles as they swam up for air! That was really cool!
