Balkan road trip - Bosnia
September 2017. A 2737 kilometers long road trip in what once was part of Yugoslavia. We passed seven borders, numerous road tolls and we made several wrong turns during our drive through Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro. Perhaps we shouldn't have trusted our GPS as much as we did... But then we would probably have missed out on a lot of nice laughs in the car ;-)
The Bosnian capital Sarajevo has its old city centre with beautiful buildings, but it also bear traces of the war in the 1990s, when Sarajevo was sieged. There are still bullet holes in many buildings, and not far from our hotel there's an entire abandoned block with trees growing in the buildings. Almost in every village you'll see damaged and abandoned houses as a constant memory of the war. Also the southern town Mostar was struck during the war and The Old Bridge (rebuilt and opened again in 2004) had stood for centuries when it was bombed.

From Mostar to Perast
Old Mostar in Bosnia is incredible beautiful! Not just the rebuilt bridge (Stari Most), but also the narrow streets and buildings. In the area you can buy all kind of stuff, if you are looking for souvenirs. We rarely do, and aren't that attracted to places that is overcrowded by other tourists. Since Mostar is a popular attraction, we were satisfied with only...
